What To Know

  • Prince William and Kate Middleton enjoy relaxing together by watching the reality TV show, according to a royal biographer.
  • Their TV preferences differ from King Charles III, who prefers writing letters at night.
  • Other royal family members are also fans of popular TV shows, with Kate loving Strictly Come Dancing and Queen Elizabeth II reportedly watching The Crown.

Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly have a go-to reality TV show or a “fun evening” together.

In royal biographer Robert Hardman’s new book, Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. Her Story, he compares King Charles III, 77, to heir Prince William, 44. Not only do father and son have different working styles, but they also have different approaches when it comes to winding down at the end of a long day.

“The heir to the throne is less of a traditionalist than his father, but he is less of a radical, too,” Hardman wrote of William, per People. “The King is the one who still enjoys sitting up writing letters into the night, whereas Prince William’s idea of a fun evening, says one of his team, is to ‘sit down with the Princess in front of The Traitors.’”

The Traitors UK, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, premiered in 2022 and has quickly become one of the most popular British game shows. The show also has a celebrity version — as well as a U.S. version hosted by Alan Cumming — and is based on the Dutch show De Verraders.

Through the years, a number of sources have offered insight into the royal family’s TV habits.

In 2019, Prince William told The Telegraph that his wife, Kate Middleton, loves watching Strictly Come Dancing, a show similar to the U.S. series Dancing With the Stars.

“Catherine is a huge fan and my mother-in-law loves it,” he said while speaking to the head judge and presenter. Prince William also admitted that he “watched the show a couple of times.”

During a 2018 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Vanessa Kirby (who played Princess Margaret in Seasons 1 and 2 of The Crown) said Queen Elizabeth II tuned into the Netflix drama series.

“A friend of mine was at a party and didn’t know anyone, so he sidled up to this group who were talking about The Crown,” Kirby recounted. “One girl said, ‘Well, my granny watches it and really likes it’. It slowly dawned on him that the girl was [Princess] Eugenie and her granny was the Queen.”
