Exclusive Interview
It’s time to return to Hillman College. On September 24, Netflix’s A Different World revival will premiere, introducing us to a new generation of students. One of those students is Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon), the daughter of Whitley (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison).
Deborah is starting a new chapter with college, but has she flipped through the pages of her parents’ love story? Specifically, Whitley and Dwayne’s iconic 1992 wedding in the original series? The one that started out with Whitley walking down the aisle to Byron Douglas III (Joe Morton), only for Dwayne to interrupt the nuptials. After a dramatic scene (“Baby, please!”), Whitney and Dwayne married, solidifying their place in TV romance history.
“I actually think that she did, but I don’t think that they showed her,” Moon told Swooon when asked whether Deborah has seen her parents’ wedding video. “I think that she was snooping around, and she found it. You feel me?”

She added, jokingly, “Whitley was like, ‘Don’t let her see that… She can’t know that we have a bad past.’ You know what I mean? She found it and probably hasn’t told her parents that she’s seen it, but maybe it’s a thing.”
College is a time of change — making new friends, figuring out your future, and falling in love. There will be plenty of romance in this revival of A Different World, which is why we had to ask the cast one important question: Who is the best yearner of Season 1?
There was chatter amongst the group, but most of them pointed to Chibuikem Uche, who plays Kojo. “He was very consistent,” costar Cornell Young IV, who plays Shaquille, said. After some continued debate, the cast agreed to reassess the best yearner once the season drops. Sounds like we’ll have plenty of yearners to choose from!
