The Feywild Job by C.L. Polk Book Cover

Despite the setbacks, I did read a few books in April. The first book I finished during my readathon was The Feywild Job by C.L. Polk, out June 30th. This queer romantasy heist book is set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons, and it completes Task #9: Read a romantasy book with a queer and/or BIPOC main character, and Task #4: Read a novel with a main character who uses they/them pronouns.

Then, I picked up the sci-fi mystery novella Murder by Memory by Olivia Waite, and I loved it! I think I’ll save the sequel for my next readathon. This one check off Task #20: Read a book set in space.

Dear Wendy cover

I finally got to a book that’s been on my TBR for ages: Dear Wendy by Ann Zhao. It’s a YA novel about two asexual and aromantic women who run rival advice Instagram accounts. They meet and start an aro/ace club in their college together, becoming close friends without realizing they’re online enemies. This is a kind of friendship romcom, and I adored it.

The only upside to having Covid is that I finally watched Heartstopper for the first time, and now I’m obsessed. I know I’m very late to the party, but I’m glad I am, because it was exactly what I needed in this moment. So, of course, I read the first volume of the graphic novel and listened to the Nick and Charlie audiobook novella.

As for what’s on my May TBR, I’ll definitely be reading the rest of the Heartstopper books. I also plan on reading some danmei books to get a sense of the genre, and that will complete Task #21: Read a genre (SFF, horror, mystery, romance) book in translation.
