Robert Pattinson in Talks to Work With Bong Joon Ho for Untitled Project

Robert Pattinson may be collaborating with director Bong Joon-Ho for an untitled project with Warner Bros. According to Deadline, Bong is in talks with Warner Bros to “write and direct” a film based on Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel Mickey7 and that The Batman’s Pattinson is in talks to join the project. Bong will also produce the film for his production company Offscreen along with Plan B and Dooho Choi for Kate Street Picture Company.

Ashton’s novel will be published in early 2022 by St. Martin, a Macmillan imprint. However, Deadline is reporting that Bong’s adaptation may be drastically different from the novel given Bong’s experiences with adaptations. Mickey7 is a sci-fi novel involving clones and otherworldly planets. Here is an excerpt from the synopsis of the novel from Macmillan.

“Mickey7 is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous — even suicidal — the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.”

Bong has still not been attached to direct a new project since his sweep at the Oscars for Parasite where he won Best Director and Best Picture. According to Deadline, Bong was presented the manuscript for the book by the end of 2021 and became interested. He became loosely attached to the project and met with many of Hollywood’s biggest stars during the 2021 holiday break. Bong and other executives were impressed with Pattinson and sent him an offer going out right before the new year.

Bong Joon-Ho and Robert Pattinson are busy at Warner Bros.

This project marks the second collaboration between Bong and WarnerMedia as there is currently an HBO limited series based on Parasite in the works with the director executive producing the project alongside Adam McKay, who also produces the HBO series Succession.

Meanwhile, Pattinson has a massive Warner Bros. project coming out soon with The Batman. The Batman will see Pattinson taking over the mantle of the caped crusader with director Matt Reeves. The DC project will also star Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Jeffery Wright as Commissioner Gordon. The Batman flies into theaters on March 4.

Warner Bros. also recently signed Pattinson to a first-look deal, meaning they have plenty of plans to do business with the actor in the future. Pattinson recently starred in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and will appear in the upcoming A24 film, The Stars at Noon.

Both Bong and Pattinson are represented by WME, with Bong also being managed by Jerome Duboz and Pattinson being repped by 3 Arts.
