CeCe Peniston Accuses Lizzo of Copyright Infringement

Lizzo is under fire for potential copyright infringement.

90s hitmaker CeCe Peniston, took to Instagram on Friday (Oct. 18) to accuse the “Juice” rapper of copying her ad-libs from Peniston’s 1992 tune, “Finally.”

“this is a clear example of #copyrightinfringement Cece Peniston versus @lizzobeeating y’all check this out and btw I love her music,” Peniston wrote, alongside a video comparing the two songs.

R&B singer-songwriter India.Arie commented on the post in support, writing, “I thought she interpolated it intentionally and paid you for it. I hate that ANY one would not automatically KNOW this IS a signature of yours. Clearly. But as musicians i guess we hear it more clearly.”

The accusation comes following two others by songwriters for the opening line of “Truth Hurts.” Justin Raisen, compared it to a single called “Healthy” that he allegedly wrote with Lizzo in 2017. Both feature the lyric, “I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100 percent that bitch.”

In early 2018, British singer Mina Lioness, claimed she first tweeted the line a year prior.
