Pelosi’s husband arrested for drink-driving after late-night Porsche crash

US

The husband of Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after his Porsche was in a crash on Saturday night.

California Highway Patrol said Paul Pelosi, 82, was detained in Napa County, north of San Francisco, after a two-vehicle collision shortly before midnight.

He was taken to jail and charged with two misdemeanours with bail set at $5,000, but police records show he was no longer in custody on Sunday.

Highway Patrol said Mr Pelosi was trying to cross State Route-29 in his 2021 Porsche when his car was hit by a 48-year-old man in a Jeep.

No one was hurt, and the other driver wasn’t arrested.

State law prohibits drivers from getting behind the wheel with a blood alcohol level above 0.08%.

Mrs Pelosi was in Rhode Island at the time to give a speech to students at Brown University

Her spokesperson said: “The speaker will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast.”
