The Weeknd already put out one new song this week, and now he’s back with the second, entitled “Blinding Lights,” produced by Max Martin.
The Starboy singer is coming back at the end of 2019 with a renewed vigor and an album in 2020 well in sight. In what he’s calling a new “brain melting psychotic chapter,” in his career, the singles so far have been fairly tame.
“Heartless,” released on Tuesday, sounds closer to classic Weeknd fare from Trilogy than his Starboy material, but “Blinding Lights” flips that with a pumping ’80s synth-driven beat.
Next week, The Weeknd will take over The Late Show With Stephen Colbert for a two-night performance on December 5th and 6th. He’ll also make his big screen debut in the critically-acclaimed Safdie Brothers film Uncut Gems alongside Adam Sandler, in select theaters on December 13th and nationwide on December 25th.
