Stay in a 100+ year old house that has undergone an amazing restoration.

With a few long weekends creeping up on the calendar, there’s no better time to start planning your next getaway. Enter, Prince Edward County’s Merrill House.

Merrill House sits back from the main street on a large impressive estate with a sweeping lawn and endless character. The Victorian mansion, built in 1878 for Edward Merrill, the first magistrate of PEC, was recently renovated and is now a charming 14-room inn with all the amenities of a 5-star hotel.

Bought in 2018 by Jordan Martin – the current owner, creative director and interior designer – the hotel was closed soon after for six months to undergo major renovations and restoration. Merrill House has since been transformed into an updated version of itself and is every luxury traveller’s dream.

Martin, who is from Belleville but spent several years living abroad in London, was looking for a hotel property in the UK or France when he fell in love with Merrill House. His vision for the hotel includes a vast antiques collection, outdoor sauna and a restaurant, in which sits an impressive wine cellar that holds 2,000 bottles. Next door to the inn is The Cape, an event venue that also has four suites managed by the Merrill House team.

In addition to Martin’s aesthetic influence, he’s also added cute quirks like WiFi passwords in fortune cookies and elevated luxuries like a choice of scent for pillows at turndown. It’s these details and ‘gram-worthy design that makes Merrill House a can’t-miss stop during any visit to PEC.
