Instinct TV show on CBS: canceled, no season 3 for 2020It will soon be “case closed” permanently for the Instinct TV show on CBS. The network has cancelled the Sunday night series so there won’t be a third season for Reinart and Needham.

A crime thriller, based on the James Patterson novel, Murder Games, Instinct stars Alan Cumming, Bojana Novakovic, Daniel Ings, Naveen Andrews, and Sharon Leal. The drama centers on Dr. Dylan Reinhart (Cumming), a former CIA operative who is lured out of his peaceful retirement as a university professor and author, to help NYPD detective Lizzie Needham (Novakovic) catch a serial killer. Dylan’s old CIA colleague, Julian Cousins (Andrews), lends a hand, along with Lizzie’s C.O., Lt. Jasmine Gooden (Leal). Season two kicked off with Dylan reinstated as NYPD consultant, where he can both impress and irritate Lizzie. Meanwhile, Dylan’s husband, Andy (Ings), pursues adoption as a way for the couple to finally become parents.

Airing on Sunday nights, the second season of Instinct is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.39 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 50% and 49%, respectively. Instinct is nearly the lowest-rated TV shows of the summer CBS TV shows.

A pair of Instinct episodes will air tomorrow night on CBS and the series finale will run next Sunday, August 25th.

Series creator Michael Rauch revealed the show’s cancellation and Cumming and Novak shared their thoughts.
