A former Qatari princess has apparently been found dead at her home in Spanish resort of Marbella.

The body of Kasia Gallanio, 45, was discovered by police inside the property on Sunday, according to the French newspaper Le Parisien.

Gallanio was the third wife of Abdelaziz bin Khalifa Al-Thani, 73, the uncle of the Emir of Qatar.

They married in 2004 and had three daughters but fought a custody battle for 10 years after allegations that he sexually assaulted his eldest child.

He has always denied the allegations.

The three children live with their father on the luxurious Avenue Montaigne off the Champs-Elysees in Paris after Gallanio was denied custody.

Born in Los Angeles and of Polish origin, she was staying in one of the couple’s homes in Marbella while dealing with depression and problems with alcohol.

Although a post mortem examination is still to take place, initial investigations indicate she died of a drug overdose.

Her body showed no signs of any physical violence, Le Parisien reported.

Her former husband has lived in France since 1992 when he was forced into exile over an alleged coup against the leader of Qatar.
