Official Thor: Love and Thunder action figures have provided a new sneak peek at the film’s antagonist. In the movie, Christian Bale makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as the dastardly Gorr the God Butcher, serving as a foe to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Natalie Portman’s The Mighty Thor. While we know of his casting, not much has been seen of Bale in character beyond blurry photos leaked from the set and a look at the LEGO version of the supervillain.
Now, a much better look at Gorr the God Butcher has been revealed, giving us our best look yet at the MCU’s incarnation of the character. Photos of the official Gorr action figure have been floating around on social media, and the level of detail is much more accurate than what we saw with the LEGO version. This is still a plastic action figure and not quite Christian Bale in the flesh as Gorr, but it does reveal a nice peek at the villain while fans continue to wait for that official trailer to come out. Look at the figure below.
In the comic books, Gorr is a tortured soul who spent a lifetime of devotion to the gods who never answered his prayers, causing him to snap after a lifetime of living in misery. When he comes into possession of a dark god’s sword and transforms into the “God Butcher,” Gorr makes it his personal mission to carry out his revenge against the gods whom he blames for letting bad things happen to him and his family. Eventually, he finds his most challenging adversary when he meets Thor.
Gorr the God Butcher Could Very Well End Thor
Chris Hemsworth has teased that his run in the role of the MCU’s Thor could come to an end soon, maybe even with Thor: Love and Thunder. If that’s the case, perhaps something tragic becomes of the character thanks to Gorr the God Butcher, maybe to allow for The Mighty Thor to take over in future MCU movies. In any case, Hemsworth previously told the Australian program The Today Show that he’s concerned about fan interest “waning” in his Thor, and he’s thinking that the clock is ticking.
“How many Spider-Mans has [Tom Holland] done? He’s a little behind me. I think he’s done three, I’ve done six or seven Thors, so maybe [I’m done],” Hemsworth said. “As long as they’ll have me, I’ll turn up, but I feel like it might be waning, that kind of enthusiasm.”
Taika Waititi directs Thor: Love and Thunder using a screenplay co-written with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Along with Christian Bale as Gorr, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natlie Portman, Tessa Thompson, and Jeff Goldblum, as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy cast making special appearances. Melissa McCarthy, Russell Crowe, Matt Damon, Sam Neill, and Luke Hemsworth also star.
Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released on July 8, 2022.
