After retiring from the army as a helicopter pilot who was deployed several times into the depths to hell, Steve Hamm took a breath and decided to become an actor. His handsome face and charming good looks allowed him some modeling experience as well.
After being featured in some major motion pictures including, “Acts of Violence” with Bruce Willis and some popular TV series like “Law and Order”, Steve continues to improve his craft. We exchanged some inspirational questions and answers relevant to today…..
With the threat of a second wave upon us, how do you and will you stay positive?
Well, even though I don’t work in a hospital, I still consider myself a front-line worker in the medical field. The medical professionals I work with take every precaution necessary to prevent virus contraction. My wife is a CNP (Certified Nurse Practitioner) as well, so between all of them, I get the most accurate advice and information. This is how I remain positive and can attest to the fact that if the necessary precautions are taken (wearing a mask and practicing proper social distancing), the virus spread can be reduced and some sense of a normal life can be maintained.
It is difficult to stay positive, especially with all the disturbing reports on the news and social media. People will generally listen to the “loudest” reporting available. This is unfortunate since there is a lot of misleading information out there. Of course, with the inclusion of social media now, the information is just easier to access and pass along.
I will remain positive in knowing that vaccines are being developed. This pandemic will take some time to get through, but we will persevere. We have the knowledge and technology to make it happen. America has been through several pandemics throughout history and we have made it through each one.
As an actor, voiceover, model, and helicopter driver, what is your most useless talent?
Good question!
I have many other “useless” talents – LOL.
Can probably include marathon runner, stunt driver, and culinary expert as well to name a few more- Just kidding. Could never run a marathon, my driving skills are exemplary (my wife would probably disagree), and my culinary skills need some work. My stepdaughters have told me that cooking Mac-n-Cheese does not count. Hmmm.
If I wasn’t pursuing acting, voice over, or modeling, I would be just fine flying helicopters every other week. Spend my time off laying on the couch surfing Netflix or some other streaming service. Perhaps watch a few episodes of Master Class with Gordon Ramsay to learn how to cook better….
A story about you has just come out in the New York Times, what does the headline say and why?
“Retired Army Veteran/ Lifeflight Pilot Makes A Splash in the Entertainment Industry”
This article runs because I’m new to the industry and I bring some unique skills to the performance table. I know what my brand is, and I don’t let outsiders influence me to become someone else. I work hard and have become somewhat of a role model for others to follow.
The public can relate to me since I have been in the trenches, actually and figuratively. I have worked minimum wage jobs, served my country during peace and war time, retired honorably, and continue to serve others in a unique capacity.
With the holidays quickly approaching what are your top gift list ideas? What are you hoping to get from Santa this year?
Honestly, this gets tougher every year. My wife insists that she doesn’t want anything- I know better. Basically, I’m still working on it.
I wouldn’t mind a new Audi A4 Quattro (sport package)- one day perhaps…
Actually, a “Whisper Room” sound booth for voiceover recording would be awesome. Having a quiet place to record audio is one of the toughest things to accomplish.
What are you doing for fun these days?
Well, I’m kind of a boring person, so my stepdaughters keep telling me…Can’t help it if I’m not into TikTok or watching YouTube 24/7.
I’m currently editing an audiobook, which takes up a lot of my time. During my breaks, I will go workout at the gym or watch TV. Can’t really go anywhere since COVID has shut a lot of stuff down.
Once the audiobook is complete, I’ll get back to playing video games again. FPS (First Person Shooter’s) are my favorite.
If you could be interviewed by anyone on the planet who would you want it to be and why?
It would be cool to be interviewed by Keith Morrison of NBC’s Dateline. Keith has a captivating way of telling interesting stories. I have a fascinating one to tell I think- don’t you??
What are your hopes and dreams for 2021?
First and foremost, I hope that we have a reliable and effective vaccine to combat COVID-19. I also hope that once the election politics settles down, we can start to move forward and build a better future.
For the big picture, my hope is that Congress and the President can forge ahead and have a plan to improve healthcare and fix some of the other issues which have been plaguing us for years.
In my own little world, I am hoping to make a bigger impact with acting and modeling. I will continue doing voiceover and hopefully connect with some prominent companies and sponsors.
I will continue to fly for Lifeflight as long as I can. This work helps keep me “grounded”- so to speak…
