Kid Cudi Got a Tattoo of His Favorite Grunge Rocker Wearing a Daniel Johnston Shirt

Kid Cudi has tweeted his love of late Nirvana singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain a lot over the years. Including in 2015, when he stated, “Never not thinkin’ about Kurt Cobain.” So it makes perfect sense that the rapper paid the ultimate homage to the grunge godhead by getting a tattoo of Cobain wearing a shirt featuring his own personal hero.

The arm piece unveiled over the weekend is a recreation of a photo of Cobain from the 1992 MTV VMAs, during which the Nirvana leader rocked glasses, a signature ratty cardigan and a shirt with the cover of late outsider singer Daniel Johnston’s beloved 1983 album Hi, How Are You.

“4 Kurt and salute to Daniel,” Cudi wrote alongside the image of his left forearm with the fresh ink. Tattoo artist Dr. Woo also posted the picture, writing, “Kurt in Daniel on Cudi… legends all the way round.” The Cobain image sits just above the logo for the legendary Olympia, Washington, independent label K Records.

Cudi recently released a collab with Eminem, “The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady,” and the solo single “Leader of the Delinquents,” and he’s slated to co-star in the upcoming HBO series We Are Who We Are.
